Measure his chest and neck, not his weight. The chest measurement decides the size, and the neck should fit within the same size.
How to measure
- Use a soft tape measure (or a piece of string and a ruler).
- Chest: wrap it around the widest part of his chest, just behind the front legs.
- Neck: wrap it around the base of his neck, where a collar sits.
- Keep it snug but not tight. You should be able to slide two fingers under the tape.
| Size | Chest | Neck |
|---|---|---|
| S | 19–23 in (48–59 cm) | 16–19.5 in (40–50 cm) |
| M | 24–31.5 in (60–80 cm) | 18–22.5 in (45–58 cm) |
| L | 24–37 in (60–95 cm) | 24.5–32 in (62–82 cm) |
| XL | 26.5–40.5 in (67–104 cm) | 25.5–36 in (64–92 cm) |
Between two sizes?
Go by the chest. If his chest sits near the top of one size, choose the next size up, because the straps adjust down more easily than they stretch. A thick or long coat? Size up as well.
